We are doing so many great things in our class this year! We had almost half of our class participate in the StoryTelling Festival and most of us are doing the Breakfast Book Club with Mrs. Lords. Monte, Mason, Taya, and Regina all did amazing at the HoopShoot. Regina even won for her age group! Our class won the First month of most laps around the track. We have some amazing runners in our class. Mason did the Butch Cassidy Fun Run in November. Kasia, Ethan, and Camden all ran with Santa at Run, Run Reindeer. Kasia even stayed and did the 5K with her mom! We are collecting food for Dixie Care and Share. When I came down the hall and saw all the generosity of our class it really warmed my heart! We are writing about Christmas Traditions on UtahWrite and really kicking it on FirstinMath. I am so proud of the students in my class and the lessons they are learning. Come in and visit us this month and read a Christmas Story to us.

There are so many fun things happening in Perrydise! We will have a practicum student next week. Her name is Sara Leigh (maybe she will bring baked goods!) It is also "Say no to Drugs" we will wear pajamas on Monday and crazy socks on Tuesday. Our Halloween party will be on Monday afternoon following the parade. Students cannot bring weapons or facsimiles. Faces may be painted. I hope you will come and enjoy the parade with us. We are studying Utah's people---Native Americans, Explorers and Mtn. Men. We will be making Dream Catchers and then going into all the fun of the holidays. It's good to be in our class. Have a great week and enjoy our beautiful fall weather. Feel free to come and walk with us on Fridays at lunchtime!

Thank you for all the support for the carnival and all the other little things we have going on! We collected over 600 boxtops, had the best basket, (in my humble opinion) and were the first class to sign up for Utahwrite.com. I am just showing the kids how it the program works. Our class is exercising, learning how to not bully, and reading, writing and doing math. No wonder I am tired. This week we're learning about civil rights and making a difference in our community. Fractions, and Utah history. We will studying Indians, Explorers and Trappers and Traders. I hope our enthusiasm bubbles over to your house.

Happy Fall
We are finally done with testing and ready to get into the learning and fun of fourth grade! This week is Patriots Day and early out on Monday. Don't forget the parade. We are getting ready for the school carnival on September 30th. Our basket is " Hiking through Utah". Please send fun things to help fill it by the 20th. I'm so proud of our class and all they do to volunteer. We are helping the OEK kids learn how to get their lunch and then having a conversation with them. It has made lunchtime so much smoother for the rest of the school.

Summertime and the living is easy
I hope you are having a great summer! I know I am.
I have been reading lots of books, playing in the in the sun and relaxing. I am going to be taking a few classes and going on an adventure or two! I can't wait to see the new movie "17 Miracles" it's about the pioneers. I love learning about Utah's Heritage. Remember to keep practicing your multiplication tables and read for at least 30 minutes a day---you can't play all the time! Don't worry about getting ready for school yet. Enjoy every minute of summer and all the fun it brings.

Phonebooks
Don't forget to send in all those annoying old phone books! As we go into spring it still gets a little chilly-- bring a coat for recess and afternoon kickball. Keep track of your reading minutes on your kite festival chart and be ready to pass off times tables. Valentines and Sep's are fast approaching, then spring break and testing! This week we will have the Bird Festival come to visit so think of any bird questions you have!

January
Just a reminder that students need to be reading every day for the kite festival. Let's help our school win again this year! Your child should be reading for at least half an hour each day! Don't forget to keep getting on First in Math. It will help with multiplication facts. We are enjoying having Julia in our class. She is going to teach us about Korean money and give a writing lesson this week. Have a great weekend and enjoy our beautiful weather.

Happy 2011
I hope you are ready to learn, learn, learn! We are going to really start working on times tables and passing them off. I hope you are doing "first in math" at home and reading, reading, reading! 4th grade will be rotating for spelling, science, and math. We are getting a new Korean student, Julia, and Kate Ehlert will be joining our class so it ought to be a fun first week of school. Mrs. McAlmond will be back with us Monday and Tuesday to help with reading. Your child should be to at least 500 in First in Math. Homework is reading every night for 30 minutes, First in Math or Multiplication facts, and spelling every night!
