Happy Holidays
I'm so thankful to have such wonderful students in my class. I am continually hearing from other teachers how they have made a difference in someones lives. Mrs. Blake is so amazed that they are so willing to come to preschool and get straight to work in the preschool. During storytelling, our class entertained preschool, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and some 4th and 5th grade classes. Everywhere they went, students and teachers were amazed at their ability to tell a tale! Watching the self confidence grow in each of them was proof of a job well done. Our Thanksgiving "breakfeast" was so much fun, pilgrims and indians coming together over pancakes, Charlie Brown and recess with the big kids! I look forward to coming to work everyday for each new adventure! In December, we will start rotating with the other 4th grade classes to learn about the water cycle, holiday songs and activities. We are working out a way to work in some math rotations too. On Tuesday, we will meet Scott 'Grizzley' Sorenson. He is a mountain man from Canada. This will take us into the mountain men of Utah! Start planning now for the Holiday openhouse on December 16th. The Musical Theater group in planning an amazing production for that night. You may even catch us caroling a little bit! HOHOHO!

October
It is so nice to be having cooler weather. Your child may want to bring a jacket to have in class since it gets a little cool. Next week, on Friday, the Halloween parade will be first thing in the morning. We will be decorating haunted houses after the parade. Each student will need to bring 1-2 bags of candy and a can of ready made frosting. I will supply the graham crackers. I can't wait for the sugar rush! The end of first quarter is the 31st. SEPs are coming up November 14th-18th. We will have early out days. Everyone should have at least 250 points in FirstinMath. Reading Treasures and doing the activities on the website. Students should also be reading every day for at least 30 minutes and doing spelling sorts.
Storytelling is November 11th we are getting ready in class, but practice at home too.
I am working on setting up a photo sharing site with Shutterfly so you can go in and see all of our great Kodak moments. Hopefully, it will be ready to view in the next week or so. Thanks for all your great support and your great kids. they keep me laughing every day.

Hooray for September
Thank you for 100% attendance at SEP's.
I have such a great class. Talk about kids who are fun to be around!
We have pulled our first prank on Mr. Powell and are writing about it.
We have learned to choose just right books (don't forget to read every
day for at least 30 minutes). I'm a little concerned about math facts. Many
Of the kids have to look them up, instead of just knowing them by heart.
We are finally figuring out this new reading program the district has bought.
There will be lots of really cool links on your Child's log in page for them to dig deeper into
the subjects we are learning about. Make sure you take the time to check it out and explore.
every time I get on, I find something new. I add new things weekly.
Spelling and vocabulary games, even some math timings.
It will be a fun work in progress.

We're Back!
It feels so good to be back at school getting into a routine! We have a great class this year. We spent last week getting to know each other, and Jenny, our Korean intern. She is so nice and is willing to jump in and help with anything we are doing.
We made our hats for our field trips and chose some silent reading books. This week we will be starting the new reading program and math assignments. We won't have any spelling for the next two weeks while we get used to the reading and writing in class.
I have not gotten passwords for any of our online tools yet, but as soon as I do I will send them home for you to use.
Thank you so much for coming to "Back to School Night" and sending extra supplies. It shows how important your child's education is to you and them.
Friday will be Jenny's last day with us so I am planning some fun Korean activities for us to do.

Join me in Perrydise for a great year!
I am so excited to be starting a new school year with a new group of students.
We learn so many fun things in Fourth grade. We learn to be good citizens and friends to the people around us. We explore all the people of Utah and how they helped to make it the great state it is to live in. Pioneers and Utah are what I try and base the entire year around. There are so many cool things to learn about our heritage. We work a lot with computers and will be making movies. We study about the land and how it changes over time. We learn about the water cycle and weather. We will be doing storytelling, passing off times tables and getting physically fit! This year, our district has adopted a new reading program that will be fun to figure out! We will continue with the current math program.
We will be kicking off the new year with some visitors from Korea, who will be working and learning about America and Utah! Hopefully, they will be teaching us a thing or two about Korea! I've never been there, but I like the food!
I hope you have been reading during the summer and have a lot of really great stories to write about. We are going to have such a great year. I have posted a list of things you may want to pick up to help you have a better year. If you can't, that's okay. Show up on August the 11th ready to learn. Get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast. We will be taking lots of pictures so make sure you comb your hair! Back to school night will be Wednesday from 6-7 p.m.
I'm looking forward to lots of great adventures! See you soon!

Welcome 2010
Welcome back to school! I can't believe the school year is half over. This is too much fun to be halfway done. We just got two new students-- Taylour and Ashlinn. Lucky me two nice girls to fill our desks. We are now trying to pass off times tables and going on the Oregon trail. The students are divided into wagon trains and working together to make it to Utah in one piece. Good luck.
FIT FRIDAYS-- every Friday we will be walking three laps around the track as a class to be a gold medal school. Come and join us. Sometimes we jog, walk, and saunter. It's great to be able to just talk to the kids. If your child wants to, they may bring on ipod while we walk. They are responsible for it and can only use it while they are walking.
Bookfair Blast from the past car show Feb. 22
SEP's-- February 22-25 early out
GeoBee--March 5th start studying.
KITE FESTIVAL--- Don't forget to be reading every night for at least 20 minutes. Keep track of your minutes on the kite chart and bring it back in April for a kite at the Kite Festival in April. The teachers with the most participation get put in a drawing for a 7 day cruise so get reading and don't lose your chart. If your not going to the festival, I can turn it in for you.
